I think that the use of projectors in a classroom is a necessary resource for teachers. Projectors are very helpful while doing whole group instruction to go over materials together and explain information every student must know. They are also helpful because they enlarge certain works or instructions, which can help for students who are visually impaired. Also, projectors can be used to show examples of what kids will be doing, such as activities. It's also a great way for teachers to go through activities and projects step-by-step, instead of using a chalkboard. Projectors are interesting, because you can use them in many different ways- both with the computer and without. Smart boards and White boards are great to use with computers, but for all other teaching strategies a projector can be extremely useful.
Another non-computer technology I have in mind is the Leap Frogs. I am not very familiar with these, but I know that they use a lot of the same features that CD ROM storybooks use, but without the computer. For example, there is sound, as well as a pen you can use to highlight words that need repeated or decoded. This is a great way to incorporate technology in the classroom for students who are learning to read, without the use of a computer.

Karly,
I agree 100% with your examples of non-computer technology within the classroom. Many of peoples post have said the same thing about projectors and everyone seems to be on the same page with that. They can be used for many different things therefore it is an important tool for teachers to have, although I wish that many of us will be lucky enough to get things in our classroom like the Smart boards and white boards; which are more improved projectors, but also computer based. I think that Leap Frogs are a great tool to use within the classroom. Not only do they give children a chance to familiarize themselves with different words, and begin to teach themselves how to read, but it is also fun. Teachers need to understand the interests of students and involving things in the classroom that students like will just make them more engaged and more motivated, therefore I think Leap Frogs would be a great tool as well. With that said, I choose writing utensils as the most important tool for non-computer technology. Obviously we can do a lot with writing utensils, but I do not think we give them enough credit as they deserve. Check out my post if you want to read more about what I thought about them: http://imbusk.blogspot.com Good luck the rest of the semester! We are almost done!!!

I think that projectors are great too. This relates to my post about overhead projectors. They are great for visual learners! I love the leap frogs. My cousin's have them and they are amazing. Kids love them and they have so many options and books for the children to read! Great find!
While I was trying to think of and research some non-computer based technology, a projector is not one that came to mind. However, it is one of the most useful technologies available for teachers. Like you mentioned, projecters are very helpful when doing whole group instruction. There are various reasons that projectors are useful and I feel as if you touched base with the major points. I think it is a great tool to provide examples and a way to enlarge the material. White boards and smart boards are another projector type technology that can be helpful in the classroom as well.
Prior to this post, I was unaware of Leap Frogs, the non-computer technology. It seems like a neat and useful technology for our classrooms. There are so many useful tools that we as teachers have the opportunity to utilize. It's very exciting to see all of our options!
